Suchiyu SCY 16103 Gantry PRO 1/16 4WD Brushless RC Truck – 70 km/h

The fast one

This is the PRO version of the Gantry, and the difference is not small. A 2840 brushless motor spinning at 4000KV, fed by a 35A brushless speed controller, takes it to 70 km/h — where the brushed Gantry tops out at 38. A brushless motor has no carbon brushes to wear down, so it also runs cooler, lasts far longer and needs no servicing.

The six upgrades over the standard Gantry

The panel above lists them in Chinese, so here they are in plain English:

• 35A 2S brushless ESC — the speed controller, up from 30A
• 17G three-wire steering servo — stronger, more precise steering
• 2840 brushless motor — 4000KV, replacing the 390 carbon-brush motor
• Metal differential — where the standard car uses nylon
• Metal centre drive shaft — the part that takes the most punishment
• Metal dog bones — the driveshafts out to each wheel

What 70 km/h looks like

Full-proportional throttle and steering means smooth acceleration, braking, reverse and turning rather than an on/off toy response. The transmitter also lets you dial the top speed and the acceleration down, so a first-time driver can start slow and open it up as they get confident.

Where it runs

Flat ground, sand, mud, gravel and grass. Double-wishbone independent suspension on all four corners with upright spring shocks front and rear keeps the tyres down over rough ground, and it will pull up slopes of more than 45°.

Inside the car

The same hard-wearing chassis layout as the standard Gantry — splash-proof electronics, a protected battery bay, bold bumpers and off-road tyres — but with the metal drivetrain parts listed above fitted from the factory.

Planetary gear differential

A differential lets the inside and outside wheels turn at different speeds through a corner instead of scrubbing and skipping. On the Pro this one is metal.

Lights

Fourteen high-brightness LEDs across the front and the roof bar, with three modes on a button: steady, slow flash and fast flash.

The transmitter

A 2.4GHz gun-style controller with steering and speed trims, a reverse switch and a light button, reaching 120 metres. Several of these cars can run together without interfering with each other.

Good to know

• The transmitter needs 3 AA batteries, which are not included
• A full charge takes 3 — 3.5 hours and gives 12–18 minutes of hard running
• At 70 km/h this needs open space — a park or ground, not a living room
• Splash-proof, not waterproof: wet grass and puddles are fine, ponds are not
• Recommended for ages 14 and up, or younger with an adult supervising
